Teaching at the dairy farm

Client: DairyCo and FACE

Sector: Education

The Brief – We were commissioned by FACE (Farming and Countryside Education) and Dairy Co to produce a film to inform school teachers of the many benefits of arranging an educational visit to a dairy farm. It was important to capture the expertise of the dairy farmers, show the experiential learning taking place and to inform teachers of where they can access more support and additional resources.

The Process - We filmed at a variety of farms and schools across the UK. It was important to be as unobtrusive as possible to capture the children’s natural reactions and show the teachers and farmers doing what they do best. Our job was to blend into the background and capture the whole learning experience.

The Result - They say never to work with children or animals, the final film shows how wrong this is. We loved filming the children's interaction with the animals and farmers. FACE used the film to great effect on their website and as a promotional DVD.

Having worked with IDM media in a previous organisation, I was delighted to come to FACE and find we were already working with them. On this latest film, IDM completely understood our requirements - something that would both inform and inspire teachers to use farms as an outdoor classroom, across all age groups and disciplines.

Not only is the resulting video just what we had hoped for, but the process of making it was also made very easy. From our first creative meeting, through scheduling and carrying out the filming, to approving the final edit, IDM were flexible, helpful and at all times very professional.

I look forward to our next project with them.
